Top Sources of Omega-6 Fat in the Diet

Q. What are the top sources of omega-6 fats in the diet?

A.
These are the four oils that account for 96 percent of the vegetable oil consumed in the USA:

     cottonseed oil
     corn oil
     soybean oil
     canola oil

Of these the top omega-6 fat contributors are cottonseed oil, soybean oil and corn oil, which are found in salad dressings, margarines, mayonnaise and processed foods.  Canola oil is actually a good source of omega-3 fats and has much less omega-6 fats than the aforementioned oils.
